Since the discovery of trisomy 21 in 1950s, the research in DS has grown steadily as shown by the publications, 10899 in total (Figure 1). Among the hot topics are diagnosis, therapy, and brain (Figure 2), which are mostly done in human. The new frontiers developed along with the new techniques include epigenetics, chromatin, gene therapy, and circadian (Figure 1, 3, 4). Some field such as meiosis started early in 1970s but keeps quiet and didn't grow (Figure 1, 4), probably due to the difficulty to crack the quesion of HSA21 non-disjunction. As we see the data for different countries, no country can compete with USA, with the European countries in the 2nd group, except Japan maybe due to its high prevalance of DS. Most countries with high prevalence of DS seem to produce more publications than other countries (Figure 5). Compared to its population, the number from China is really not significant (Fig.5). With these data in mind, you can select a country to stay and a field to work in, so that you have a better chance to flourish in DS research.
